Store More! Now that the holidays are over, what are you going to do with all of that extra stuff?

by Denise Bates Enos

First of all, don't wait until spring to rid your home of unnecessary items, advises professional organizer Rachel Logan of Breathing Space in Orlando. "People need to get rid of things they don't use," she says. "Discard broken or rarely used appliances, weird gifts, anything you're keeping out of guilt or a sense of obligation or the belief that you'll use that item 'some day.' "

Liz Witts, a professional organizer for organizedliving.com as well as for HGTV's Mission: Organization television program, agrees with Logan's philosophy.

"My favorite tagline is, 'When in doubt, throw it out.' Keep that in the forefront of your mind when you're sorting," she says. "You know what you really use and need and what you could let go."

The notion of throwing things out, of course, doesn't need to be taken literally. Donating items in good condition to charitable organizations adds a feel-good component to paring down one's possessions. Logan keeps a garbage bag at the ready that she fills regularly with items to donate. She says that she found the inspiration to do so from flylady.net, a free online site that provides tips for decluttering and organizing one's home.

As 2007 fast approaches, these pros are on the move; Demand soars for improvement services as Central Floridians shape up for new year!

by Laura Brost and Sara K. Clarke, Sentinel Staff Writers

The new year means one thing -- a fresh start. Many Central Florida businesses from house cleaners to financial planners are ready to help people turn over a new leaf next week. Though the season for attacking resolutions can be the busiest of the whole year for some companies, the rush is welcomed.

Here's a look at Central Floridians who are in demand during the new year.

Get organized.

Rachel Logan says come January, lots of people want to get their homes organized.

"I think the new year does sort of light a fire under people," Logan, 38, said.

She should know. Logan owns Breathing Space, an organizing company she started in Orlando in January 2006. Her business, which focuses on decluttering rooms, throwing away unnecessary items and even rearranging pantries, sees at least a 50 percent increase in January.

But it's not just the home that needs an organizer's touch. According to reports on the National Association of Professional Organizers Web site, the average person wastes one hour a day looking for misplaced items and papers on a cluttered desk at work.
